This photograph was interesting to me because of the way the light is on the person. His body and guitar look as if they are lite up or have an outline of light coming off of them. Even though the photo is not very crisp and clear I think it represents the vibe on Fourth Avenue. When you are walking down the street you see many musicians playing and they are having so much fun and look happy. My partner Tricia and I ended up talking to this guy for a little bit and he was just excited to have some pictures of him playing. The atmosphere is so laid back and relaxing and very artistic. This photograph is taking from the ground and looking up at the musician which is a different view than you would normally see just walking by him. I think is captures your attention because you has a many things to look at and it carries your eye across the entire composition.

Force of Attraction
Photograph by: Tricia Zabowsky
It was important for me to have a local musician in some of the photos because they are such an important aspect of the Fourth Avenue community. This local musician was a wonderful subject. I experimented with many different angles and moved very closely to the guitar player as well as his guitar. This photo stood out well above the many others because of the illusion of motion, the bright colors, and powerful composition. The bright colored walls really brought a lot of energy to the scene. I love how the composition of this photo all leads to bright lights of Fourth Avenue. The guitar player is looking there and the angles of the building direct your eyes there as well. When I look at this picture I feel as if I am a pedestrian being pulled and attracted to the lights down the street, with my very surroundings nudging me along to the lights and life down the street.
Intermission
I had to take many, many different photos of this scene in order to find what I really wanted. The most difficult part was catching people at the right time because I love when my camera catches that illusion of motion. I also really love the strong lines and angles created by the building of the local business, "Hippie Gypsy." I find the man who is sitting as a wonderful part of the scene. His hunched posture and sitting position makes him look tired. I imagine him as taking a much needed break from all of the action of the Fourth Avenue community. It is an intermission of the night, a time for him to catch his breath from the busy, chaotic night.
"Lights on Fourth"
This photograph was exciting to me because it captured all the light from the cars. This was done by leaving the shutter open for 5 seconds, which is an extended period of time, and zooming in and out while it was open. This photograph shows the motion the the cars headlights as they move through the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Sixth Street. To me this photograph captures the lively hood of Fourth Avenue and shows that even at 11 pm there is a lot of commotion downtown.
"Bright Music Lively Lights"
Photograph by: Nicole MichelottiThis photograph caught my eye because it is not a normal portrait of a musician. This is because while I was taking the photograph at night I had to keep the shutter of my camera open for a longer amount of time enabling it to capture more of the lights surrounding the guitar player. This seemed so exiciting to me. Not only was it a local artist playing on fourth avenue but the lights surrounding him seemed to make the music come alive in the photograph. Even though the image seems a blurry it captures your eye because it takes you a second to figure out what is in the photograph.
